Demand response (DR) is a strategy used by electric utility companies to reduce or shift energy consumption from peak hours of the day, when the demand for electricity is the greatest to leaner demand periods.
But the current DR technology only impacts a very small universe of power-consuming devices (in most cases turning air conditioners or heating up or down by 2 to 4 degrees). DR represents a tremendous advance in power management, but its flexibility and functionality have been limited by existing technology.
We are currently building a technology platform that would improve the DR technology and help people save energy at their homes and work places. The platform enables control of not just the thermostats but also rest of the power consumers like lights and home appliances. Our goal is to provide tailored solutions to utilities, energy retail and home service companies to save energy while delivering high customer satisfaction, as well as to home owners who would then be able to choose the best way to save energy and therefore reduce their energy bills.
